Biodegradable Sunscreen
Biodegradable sunscreen is a great benefit to both the wearer and the environment. Biodegradable is a term that means the products components can separate and integrate into the environment without causing harm to the local ecosystem. A good example of the opposite of this is synthetic plastics, which take thousands of years to eventually fall apart and are unhealthy for almost any environment. For sun block this is especially important as people usually slather themselves almost completely when they head to the beach or outdoors and then touch wildlife or dive into local water systems. Here the sun block rubs off and ends up back in the environment where it can cause significant harm, especially if it contains harsh or very resilient synthetic chemicals.
Instead, a biodegradable line of sun block will rub off and move back into the environment safely. This by no means implies that sun block could be just dumped into a local river, but it does mean that the little bit of lotion that does leave the body while in the water will not be harmful and will eventually work its way out of the ecosystem safely.
This is especially important as many natural areas that people frequent are becoming more and more sensitive to chemical agents. Imagine a beach with hundreds of people on it. Though, the little bit of sun block that comes off one body isn’t much, in total it adds up to a very large amount that can easily alter the balance and health of the local environment.
