Natural Sunscreen
Natural products are a huge market these days. Rightly so, people are very concerned about the possibility of harsh chemical byproducts and after effects that can occur with synthetic chemicals. This is compounded even more greatly when these products are coming in contact with your skin as well as the skin of younger children, who are even more susceptible to the impacts of chemical agents. For many people, natural sunscreen is chief among these products as sun block often covers a huge percentage of the body for an extended period of time. Additionally, such products also have waterproofing agents that make them difficult to wash off, so any chemicals can be on the body for even longer than the next shower.
‘Natural’ is by no means a protected or carefully governed term. Companies can stick the word ‘natural’ on practically anything and because people are interested in have a safer product, they will buy it with checking the ingredients. Ideally, anything that is labeled as natural should not contain any chemicals that cannot already be found in nature. These ingredients are stable and safe for exposure to humans (after all there’s some natural stuff that isn’t safe), so purchasing these products should reduce the likelihood of any possible impact of from chemicals.
Nonetheless, most natural products do have some degree of chemicals for preservation or to keep them stable. Most of these are relatively safe and should not be considered very dangerous. The safety benefits should also be weighed against the effectiveness of these products, as many ‘natural’ products do not have efficacy of synthetic chemicals.
